Whirlpool F05 E02 Error is one that does not always indicate a faulty thermistor. In production, this translates into a trap in J3 of the control board, whose traces microcrack due to vibration starting in the third year of use. The threshold value that separates a temporary reset from a definitive repair is one where the code clears after replacing the sensor; if it persists, run a continuity inspection on the trace that goes from pin 3 of the heating relay to the microcontroller, because a resistance greater than 0.5 Ω on that path cancels the signal.
In my experience with top-load Whirlpool washers manufactured after 2019, the most common mistake when applying this is resetting the code without having emptied the lint filter. I have seen units lock up again on the next cycle because the partial obstruction overheats the thermistor and regenerates the same thermal fault when cold.
