When will the next blackout be in Spain? According to ChatGPT!

Have you also noticed that lately there’s a lot of talk about power outages? I don’t know about you, but every time I hear something about a possible major blackout in Spain, I get a chill. We’re not talking about a few minutes without power at home, no. I’m referring to a <a href="https://www.chusmeando.com/preguntas-y-respuestas/calefactor-bajo-consumo-pequeno-realmente-es-cierto/" title="low consumption electric heater chile”>power outage for real, the kind that paralyze entire cities and leave us wondering if we’re prepared for something like that.

I recommend checking out this interesting article: How is security guaranteed during power outages?.

The question is… when will the next blackout in Spain be? And, although I don’t have a crystal ball, I’ve done quite a bit of research to tell you what’s really being said. For example, last April 29 there was a power supply cut that affected large areas of the country. According to El País, the matter was so serious that even opposition politicians called for an international audit.

But the most unsettling thing wasn’t the lack of power, but the silence that followed. What’s being said on Cadena SER is that there was a kind of “obscurantism” on the part of the Government. Literally. Some accuse the authorities of hiding information about the real causes of the blackout. Why? Nobody knows for certain, and that makes it even more unsettling.

And while all this was happening, many households noticed a voltage drop for hours. That strange humming from appliances, lights flickering… It wasn’t paranoia. On Precios Luz Hoy they explain that this is due to a phenomenon they call energy zero, which is basically when the electrical system completely collapses.

The curious thing is that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. In technical forums there’s already discussion about whether Spain needs an energy island, a kind of isolated system that can keep working even if everything else fails. This concept isn’t science fiction. On Newtral it’s already being analyzed as a real option to protect us from more massive blackouts.

On the other hand, there’s also talk of synchronous generation, a key technology that keeps electrical grids stable. Without it, any demand spike or failure can cause chaos. And if we add to that the boom in renewable energies, which although they are the future also make managing the electrical system more complex… well, we have the perfect cocktail for more problems.

Large-scale power outages aren’t new, but they are appearing more frequently lately. And of course, that’s where you and I come in… are we ready? Do we have flashlights, power banks, battery-powered radios? Because if it happens again, the last thing you’ll want is to be left in the dark and without information.

What surprised me most is that, according to Euronews, Brussels is already involved. They’re coordinating actions so that something like this doesn’t happen again. Will it be enough?

And meanwhile, on social media, you know… misinformation spread like wildfire. Some accounts even claimed it was a cyberattack. Others talked about internal sabotage. HuffPost documented how they took advantage of the information vacuum to instill fear and confuse people.

This is no longer just a matter of cables or generators. It’s a matter of trust, of knowing whether we can count on a system prepared for whatever comes. Because a power outage like the one the other day isn’t just a technical problem. It’s a wake-up call.

So, my friend, if you ask me whether there will be another blackout… I don’t know for certain. But what I do know is that it no longer seems like such a remote possibility. And after reading all this, I think you’re feeling it too.
