Be very careful! What you have to do to work and collect unemployment without getting fined

The thing is, but . Of course, it’s not like they give you it all at once .

It depends on what you earn and the hours you put in, the figure varies a ton. For example, if you land a job at per month, but if it’s a crappy part-time gig, then you drop to 360 . Then, as the months go by, it keeps dropping until by month 22 they give you 180 euros if they pay you the unemployment all at once to invest in the business, or collect it month by month while you get busy working. The deadline to apply is 15 is just a few days, there’s another option: pause the unemployment. You can stop collecting while you work, and when they fire you, you resume it right where you left off . The contributions from those days you save for another future unemployment claim, because you never know. But watch out, if the contract goes past a year, then you have to choose: either you stick with the old unemployment or you open a new one with what you’ve contributed .

And there are some, like artists, who have their own little racket. The SEPE has rolled out a 600-euro benefit for them, but that’s another story because they can’t combine it with other jobs, only pause it and resume it . It’s four months a year, so the poor things can live between shoots without having to be waiters all day long.

But not everyone can take advantage of this, not by a long shot. If you have a collective layoff at your company, or you’re a relative of the owner (even cousins, mind you), you’re out . It also doesn’t count if the contract is full-time and you have unemployment from before April 2025, unless you meet some very strange requirements .

In the end what matters is always notifying the SEPE. If you start working and don’t say anything, later they’ll demand the money back and give you a telling-off. You have 15 days to report any change . And if you don’t want the supplement, you can ask them to remove it, but within the 15 days after starting the job, otherwise they’ll force it on you .

In short, the new regulation is good for not going from unemployment to a salary all at once, but you have to do the math. Because if they give you 480 euros a month for six months, but they take it out of the six months you had left, it might not be as worth it as it seems . It depends on whether you prefer to have a cushion now or stretch it out later. Like everything, a bit of solitaire cheating.
